The River Lynher rises on the slopes on the eastern side of Bodmin Moor, 280m, and flows for 34km to reach the Tamar estuary below St. Germans. One of its tributaries. the River Tiddy, supports a population of Atlantic salmon. Otters thrives along  much of the length of the river and its tributaries.

Along the valley  beef and sheep farms as well as specialist dairy farms. Cornish hedges and woodlands support wildlife.

The Lynher estuary is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Special Protection Area (SPA). Many species can be found here, including rarer species such as the kingfisher, dipper and avocet.

Bridges

The river is crossed by many old stone bridges that were originally built for horse and cart. The quiet, narrow lanes follow the medieval routes from farms to farm and on to the village and the market towns.
