Pete Bousfield

Pete Bousfield works in Middlewood on the eastern edge of Bodmin Moor, Cornwall, where he has lived for many years.

Pete's current work is all about the landscape of Bodmin Moor, in particular Twelvemen’s Moor with its skyline of Kilmar Tor, the ‘dragon’s back’.

The granite rocks of Bearah Tor and Langstone Downs with its three cairns are important features because of the earth energy lines, especially the Mary line, that move through the land and down into the Lynher Valley below.

These lines of energy, the structure of the rocks, the effect of the weather and seasons upon the landscape, all contribute to the colours and forms in Pete’s work.

Curved and coloured acrylic strips denote paths of energy lines and spirals.

The colours are painted onto carved layers of MDF sheet, fixed together onto clear acrylic sheet so that the each piece of work appears to ‘float’ off the wall.

The thickly textured acrylic paint glows with colours that change according to the time of day and amount of light.

Because of the complexity of each piece of work, a box is made to carry not only the work itself but also working drawings, the inspiration behind the work and instructions for display.
